About the programme

 Special Education (by Areas of Practice)

  The Special Education (by Areas of Practice) programme is designed to train highly qualified special education
  teachers, speech therapists and inclusive education specialists capable of working with children who have special
  educational needs — visual, hearing, speech, intellectual and physical developmental disabilities, as well as children
   on the autism spectrum. The dual mode of study enables students to combine theoretical preparation with teaching
  practice at special schools, rehabilitation centres and inclusive education institutions.

  Programme Objectives

  To prepare highly qualified special education specialists with psychological-pedagogical and medical-biological
  knowledge required for the education, upbringing, social adaptation and rehabilitation of children with developmental
  disabilities. Graduates will be capable of designing individual education plans (IEPs) and delivering inclusive
  education.

  • Special Psychology and Defectological Diagnostics
  • Speech Therapy (correction of speech disorders)
  • Deaf Pedagogy (education of children with hearing impairments)
  • Visual Impairment Pedagogy (education of children with visual impairments)
  • Intellectual Disability Pedagogy (education of children with intellectual disabilities)
  • Inclusive Education and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Anatomy, Physiology of Children and Fundamentals of Paediatrics
  • Early Intervention and Rehabilitation Technologies

  Skills Acquired:

  • Early identification and diagnosis of developmental disorders in children
  • Designing individual educational and rehabilitation programmes for each child
  • Applying specialised pedagogical methods (speech therapy exercises, sign language, Braille)
  • Working with children of diverse needs in inclusive classrooms
  • Counselling parents and collaborating with medical specialists

  Career Opportunities

  Graduates can pursue successful careers as special education teachers at special boarding schools, educators in
  inclusive classes at general secondary schools, speech therapists at kindergartens and schools, deaf-education
  teachers at schools for the hearing impaired, vision-education teachers at schools for the visually impaired, special
  education specialists at children's rehabilitation centres, specialists at psychological-medical-pedagogical
  commissions (PMPC), and senior specialists in inclusive education at the Ministry of Education and regional education
  departments.
