UGS (University of Geological Sciences) is founded in 2020 according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-4740 dated 8 June 2020.

According to Resolution No. PQ-4740 of 8 June 2020. The UGS was established with the aim of:
- Adapting to modern requirements of the system of training, retraining and advanced training of specialists in the geological industry;
- providing an organic link among education, science and practice in the geological industry at the proper level, creating conditions for the process of real integration of earth sciences, in particular their fundamental areas, with practice;
- to introduce specific criteria and effective mechanisms for the commercialization of scientific developments in the earth sciences
- Attracting bona fide and highly-qualified workers to higher education institutions, with the creation of financial incentive mechanisms in the training system.
The UGS is a specialized higher education and research institution of the republic, which trains qualified personnel in geology for the State Committee for Geology, mining companies and other sectors of the economy, and carries out research work;
The University comprises the H. M. Abdullaev Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Institute of Mineral Resources, Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Deposits, Institute of Advanced Training and Retraining of Geological Staff, and State Geological Museum.
In January 2021, the construction of the University Campus, which is located in Tashkent's Olimlar street, was completed. The Campus has an academic building, dormitory, library, as well as research institutes and the Geological Museum within walking distance of the campus. The entire upper floor of the academic building and research institute is occupied by canteens.
At present the University has 2 faculties, 10 departments and trains personnel in
7 directions of full-time and part-time bachelor education and 4 specialties of magistracy.
At present more than 1000 students study at the University.
More than 121 teachers work at the University, 14 of them are Doctors of Science,
41 are Candidates of Science. The tenure of the teaching staff makes 74 %.
The Centre for Geoinnovative Technologies, which is an advanced scientific and technological base for the further development of research and development in the field of geological studies, rational use and protection of mineral resources, is being established at the university. A new generation of qualified personnel with the most advanced methods and technologies for the study of mineral resources will be formed here and, in the long term, a unique research platform, an atmosphere of creative search and rationalization will be created to generate inventive ideas and projects aimed at instilling a culture of careful use of subsoil resources and reproduction of material values.

     Within the framework of cooperation, University of Geological Sciences has introduced joint educational programs with partner universities of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

     One of these programs has introduced a double degree 2+2 Joint education program for undergraduate students with Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU). According to this program, students study for two years at University of Geological Sciences and two years at MSU, and upon graduation, students receive two higher education diplomas in the chosen specialty.

     Another program is a two-degree 1+1 joint education program with the Tomsk State National Research University (TSU) for undergraduates, based on which students study for one year at TSU and one year at University of Geological Sciences. It is also planned to introduce a two-degree 1+1 joint education program with the Belarusian National Technical University from the 2024-2025 academic year.

     Such joint educational programs help to improve the quality of training of specialists in the field of geology, to expand scientific and cultural relations between University of Geological Sciences and the world's leading universities, as well as to strengthen integration processes in the region.

     In addition, University of Geological Sciences implements the academic mobility program of teaching staff with partner universities of Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan. This program allows University of Geological Sciences teachers to improve their skills, share experience and knowledge, participate in joint scientific research and publications, and involve students in international cooperation.

     Today, at University of Geological Sciences, 4 teachers from TSU and one teacher from Kazan Federal University give lectures on various subjects related to geology and mineralogy remotely. Also, Dr. KIM Sahng Yup from the Republic of Korea was involved in the department of "Mineralogy, petrography and geochemistry", as well as in the department of "Geology of mineral deposits" from the Osh State Technical University named after M. M. Adishev. They conduct lectures for 4th and postgraduate students and participate in the development of curricula and methodological manuals.

     In conclusion, we can say that University of Geological Sciences is actively developing effective cooperation with leading universities in various fields of geology. This cooperation meets modern requirements and problems in the field of science and education, and also helps to solve current problems facing the field of geology and society.
