Faculties

Based on the demand and need for philological personnel in the Fergana Valley, the groundwork for training qualified specialists in Uzbek language and literature began in 1936 at the Andijan State Evening Studies Pedagogical Institute. In 1939, students were admitted to the full-time and part-time departments of the Andijan State Teachers’ Institute. On April 28, 1992, a number of structural changes were implemented in connection with the establishment of Andijan State University on the basis of the Andijan State Pedagogical Institute. In particular, on the basis of the Faculty of History and Philology, two faculties History and Philology - were established.

It should be noted that after the institution was granted university status, new academic programs were opened. In this regard, the specializations of journalism and oriental studies were directly related to the activities of the faculty. Accordingly, for a certain period, the faculty was referred to by names such as “Uzbek Philology and Journalism” and “Uzbek Philology and Oriental Studies”.

The Faculty of Philology possesses significant academic potential not only within the university but also among higher education institutions of the republic, having established a strong scholarly school in the fields of Uzbek linguistics and Uzbek literary studies. The further enhancement and development of the faculty’s public, organizational, educational, methodological, spiritual-enlightenment, and research activities are primarily attributable to the work of the academic staff, including 15 Doctors of Science, nearly 40 Candidates of Science (PhD), 5 members of the Writers association of Uzbekistan, and 1 member of the Journalists association of Uzbekistan, as well as to the invaluable contributions of the organizing leader, currently holds the position as the faculty dean, Doctor Philological Sciences, professor Rahmonov Bahodir Mamajonovich.

At present, four specialized departments operate within the faculty. These are: the departments of Uzbek Linguistics, Uzbek Literary Studies, Russian Philology, and English Philology.

According to the structural changes in 2025, at Andijan State University named after Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, the previously independent faculties of Mathematics and Mechanics, Physics and Technology, and IT Engineering were merged, forming the Faculty of Physics-Mathematics and IT. This structural reform was carried out to integrate the educational process, strengthen interdisciplinary links, and train specialists aligned with the needs of the modern digital economy.

In recent years, the faculty’s activities have expanded, incorporating modern pedagogical technologies, digital learning tools, and innovative programs into the educational process.

Currently, the faculty comprises 6 departments covering physics, mechanics and mathematical modeling, mathematics, applied mathematics, computer engineering, information systems and technologies, information security, software engineering, artificial intelligence, technological processes and production automation, and renewable energy sources. More than 130 professors and instructors work at the faculty. Among them, 8 hold doctoral degrees and 43 hold candidate of sciences or PhD degrees. They engage in scientific research, create educational materials, and prepare talented students for olympiads. Educational activities are organized based on modern laboratories, computer classes, e-learning platforms, and information resources.

A dual education system has been implemented, allowing students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience in production enterprises. This system aims to enhance professional readiness and produce specialists adaptable to the labor market.

Today, the Faculty of Physics-Mathematics and IT harmonizes traditional scientific schools with modern technological approaches, consistently working to train intellectually capable, competitive, and modern specialists for the development of our country.
