About the university

History & Foundation

Al-Khwarizmi University was established by Presidential Decree PQ-160 on the 30th of April 2025 as a key pillar of Uzbekistan’s national strategy to modernize and internationalize education in technology, engineering, and artificial intelligence. Named after the legendary scholar Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, the university embodies the spirit of scientific innovation rooted in the land of Khorezm.

The foundation of the university builds upon the successful model and experience of New Uzbekistan University, which pioneered a new educational culture in the country. Drawing from its partnerships, curriculum frameworks, and operational systems, Al-Khwarizmi University adapts this proven approach to serve the needs of western Uzbekistan and beyond — with a special focus on nurturing future-ready talent aligned with global standards.

Our establishment marks not only a continuation of reform but also a leap forward in creating an academic institution that bridges tradition and future, combining world-class instruction with the rich scientific heritage of Central Asia.

Founding Institutions

Al-Khwarizmi University was established under the strategic guidance of the Specialized Education Agency and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. As part of a national initiative to create world-class centers of higher learning, the university reflects the government’s commitment to raising the standards of science, technology, and innovation education across the country.

This foundation ensures that Al-Khwarizmi University operates with a strong mandate, robust support system, and clear alignment with national education reforms, particularly those inspired by the success of New Uzbekistan University.

For international students

Foreign students at Al-Khwarizmi University benefit from a modern and internationally oriented learning environment. All academic programs are delivered in English, and a fully English-speaking academic atmosphere has been established across the university. Students study under internationally benchmarked curricula and have opportunities to learn from international faculty members and industry experts. This environment helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and global competencies required for successful careers in an increasingly interconnected world.

The university provides comprehensive support services for international students throughout their academic journey. Assistance is available for visa applications, migration procedures, and pre-arrival arrangements. In addition, students have access to comfortable on-campus accommodation, airport pickup services, orientation programs, and ongoing student support. These services ensure a smooth transition to life in Uzbekistan and contribute to a safe, welcoming, and productive educational experience.

International partnerships

International cooperation is one of the strategic priorities of Al-Khwarizmi University, supporting the advancement of educational quality, research excellence, and innovation. The university’s internationalization strategy focuses on academic exchange, joint degree programs, collaborative research projects, faculty and student mobility, international grants, and partnerships with industry.

The university is actively developing partnerships with leading higher education institutions and international organizations in the United Kingdom, China, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the Russian Federation, South Korea, and other countries, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, software engineering, drone technologies, digital technologies, and innovation.

In 2025, negotiations were conducted with prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Zhejiang University, and Khalifa University. Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with Zhejiang University of Technology (China), Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation – GUAP (Russia), and Northumbria University (United Kingdom). These agreements provide a framework for joint academic programs, research collaboration, academic mobility, and innovation projects.

The university also signed a cooperation agreement with the International Fibonacci Olympiad Center, became a member of Huawei ICT Academy, and engaged students in internationally recognized certification and professional development programs. In addition, the GDG Urgench chapter was established in cooperation with Google Developer Groups.

Partnerships have also been initiated through international programs such as the Fulbright Specialist Program, Erasmus+, and KOICA. International faculty members and experts have been recruited to support teaching and research activities, while efforts to participate in international grants and collaborative projects continue to expand.

These partnerships contribute to enhancing the university’s global profile, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and technology, and preparing globally competitive professionals.

Student reviews

Otaxonov Otabek

Before starting university, I had very low expectations. I thought it would just be about attending classes, wearing a uniform, and going home without gaining much from the experience. However, my first year turned out to be much better than I had imagined. The university focuses on what truly matters to students. Instead of emphasizing unnecessary rules and formalities, it provides meaningful lessons and creates an environment where students can genuinely learn and develop. The courses are well designed, the teaching is engaging, and the university prioritizes knowledge and personal growth over unimportant details. Overall, my first year was a pleasant surprise, and it completely changed my opinion of what university could be.

Universitetdagi birinchi yil men uchun ajoyib tajriba bo‘ldi. Men yangi do‘stlar orttirdim, professorlar juda zo‘r edi va biz sayohatga ham bordik. Bu juda maroqli bo‘ldi va men kelajakda bundan ham ko‘proq qiziqarli tajribalarni intiqlik bilan kutyapman.
