Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies (NSUMT) has a history of more than half a century. NSUMT trains highly qualified personnel for the mining industry, as well as for such related industries as mechanical engineering, electrical power, energy, chemical technology, process automation, etc. The university stands out among educational institutions due to the dedication of its teaching staff, close integration with production, and fruitful cooperation with foreign partners.

NSUMT organizes and actively supports scientific conferences, creating a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience, which contributes to the development of scientific research and provides students and teachers with the opportunity to participate in current discussions and projects. The university also boasts a student exchange program with top universities in the field of mining education. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the establishment of the Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies” dated March 31, 2022 No. DP-186, the Navoi State Mining Institute was reorganized into the Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies.

Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies provides international students with opportunities to receive quality education and comfortable conditions during their studies. The university trains specialists in technical and engineering fields related to mining, metallurgy, energy, mechanical engineering, mineral extraction and processing technologies, as well as other modern specialties. The educational process is aimed at providing students not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical skills through the use of modern equipment, scientific activities, and cooperation with industrial enterprises.

Foreign citizens can apply to the university by submitting the required documents. These usually include an application form, passport, educational certificate with an academic transcript, translated documents if required, photographs, and medical certificates. Admission of international students is carried out through the relevant university departments, which provide assistance with admission procedures and other organizational matters. International students mainly study on a contract basis, and tuition fees depend on the chosen specialty and level of education.

The languages of instruction at the university are Uzbek, Russian, and English, which creates comfortable learning conditions for international students from different countries. Today, taking into account the acceleration of globalization and integration processes in the world, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued decree No. PD-5847 dated October 8, 2019 “On approval of the Concept for the development of the higher education system of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030,” which is of particular importance for improving the quality of education and training competitive personnel, effective organization of scientific and innovative activities, development of international cooperation. With the consistent implementation of the tasks set in this decree and the achievement of the target indicators established in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-186 dated March 31, 2022 “On the establishment of Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies” the role of international cooperation of the university increases even more.

The international activities of the university are carried out in the following areas:

• Attracting foreign professors and teachers from prestigious higher educational institutions to the educational process;
• Increasing the proportion of foreign students at the university;
• Organization of the educational process based on academic exchange programs with foreign higher educational institutions;
• On the basis of international projects and at the expense of other extra-budgetary funds, attracting foreign investment, expanding the scope of paid services, creating technology parks, foresights, technology transfer, startups, accelerator centers;
• Increasing the number of professors and teachers who have received scientific degrees (PhD, DSc) in higher education institutions included in the TOP 1000 list of international rankings;
• Organizing scientific internships and advanced training for professors, teachers and management personnel in foreign universities and much more.

Today the university cooperates with more than 50 higher educational institutions in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Chile, China, Japan, South Korea, Ghana, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and several other countries. As part of cooperation, more than 20 foreign professors and teachers are attracted to our university every year, academic mobility of more than 100 students to foreign universities is carried out, students study in 11 joint educational programs, more than 30 young scientists and researchers are sent to various prestigious universities around the world to improve their qualifications and complete an internship. Our university staff actively participate in international projects. Today, our university has extensive experience in implementing international projects funded by Erasmus Plus, World bank, UniCEN, JSPS, JICA, Royal Society and other similar organizations.

At Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, a Foundation Course has been organized for international applicants. The program is aimed at learning the Russian language and helping students adapt to studying at the university.

This course is designed for international applicants who plan to enroll in bachelor’s degree programs but need language preparation. During one year, students intensively study Russian and develop their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. They also become familiar with academic terminology required for studying in their chosen field.

The program helps students to:

• effectively learn Russian for academic purposes;

• adapt to the university education system;

• prepare for studying professional subjects;

• develop communication and academic writing skills.

Bachelor’s degree education for international students is carried out in a 1+4 format:

• 1 year — preparatory Russian language course (Foundation Course);

• 4 years — bachelor’s degree studies in the chosen specialty.

After successfully completing the preparatory course, students can continue their studies at the university in their chosen field and fully participate in the academic process.

Tuition fee for the preparatory course: 600 USD per year.

The preparatory program provides a strong linguistic and academic foundation for successful university studies and future professional development.

In order to increase the level of specialization and professional creative training, as well as develop the scientific, technical and creative abilities of students, the department “Organization of research activities of talented students” was organized at the Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies.

The main goal of working with talented students is to prepare young people capable of developing the scientific and creative potential of our Republic, increasing the knowledge, creativity and freedom of creativity of students in relevant fields of science, developing in students a sense of initiative in the educational process and practical activities that they will carry out further, the formation and development of students’ creative approach to their specialty through research activities, as well as promoting the formation of personal and professional characteristics of future specialists.

Thanks to proper organization and an individual approach to working with talented youth, NSUMT students already achieve great success during their studies at the university. They regularly take prizes at conferences, olympiads and competitions. For this purpose, favorable conditions have been created at the university. In order to meaningfully spend students' free time, the university operates research, sports, spiritual and educational clubs, in which about 2,500 students take part. In order to attract young people to sports and popularize physical education, a sports complex has been created at the university. In order to flawlessly train students in English, German, French and Russian, additional training courses have been organized at the Department of Uzbek and Foreign Languages. Research clubs operate in research laboratories organized at the university departments. And spiritual and educational events are held not only at the university, but also in student dormitories.

The measures taken are bearing fruit. Over the past year, students published 59 scientific articles, 179 students took part in scientific and practical conferences. Among the achievements of 2023, the following should also be noted:

• 1 student became the winner of the competition “Heirs of Mirzo Ulugbek”, conducted by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• In the “Women Scientists and Researchers” competition, organized in connection with the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science,” 1 student was recognized as the winner in the category “Author of the best scientific article” at the regional stage.
• 1 student took part in the international online Olympiad “Sunshine” and took 1st place.
• 1 student became the winner of the State Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• 3 students became winners of the Beruni State Scholarship.
• 1 student became the owner of the “State Scholarship named after Islam Karimov”.
• 1 student won the “Grant of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
