About the university

The National Institute of Fine Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod was established in 1954 in Tashkent on the basis of the field of theatre decoration and painting. In 1997, the institute began operating as an independent higher education institution.

Today, the institute is one of the leading state higher education institutions in Uzbekistan, training specialists in fine arts, applied arts, design, museum studies, and art history.

The institute provides students with the opportunity to develop as professional artists, designers, art historians, museum specialists, and representatives of the creative sector. The educational process is based on a combination of practical training, theoretical knowledge, creative research, and modern professional skills.

Students are taught by renowned artists, designers, art historians, and experienced professors and teachers of Uzbekistan. They help young creative individuals develop their talent, build independent creative thinking, and acquire the skills required in today’s labour market.

 

For international students

The International Cooperation Department provides support to foreign students of the university in preparing documents for a visa/registration, if necessary, in placement in NIFAD dormitory or in finding another accommodation.

International partnerships

The main objective of developing international activities in the field of education is to improve the national education system and increase its prestige taking into account international experience, increasing the academic and scientific ratings of higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan at the international level. The institute pays special attention to the development of international activities and to date, cooperation has been established with many universities of South Korea, Belarus, Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, Japan, Malaysia, Great Britain, Romania, China, Finland, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Poland, Italy, Spain , Turkey, Thailand. In collaboration with them academic and student mobilities, art exhibitions, art residencies, scientific conferences and seminars, internships and trainings are held, as well as joint international projects are implemented. NIFAD has successfully implemented such projects as Creative Spark and Change Academy, Erasmus+ CBHE “MUSAE”, UNESCO “Innovation through tradition: scientific practical research in handicrafts of Uzbekistan to develop innovative family business”, Japanese grant on the development and research of Samarkand paper.

As part of the Erasmus+ ICM program, students of the institute participate in mobility at the Romanian University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca and the Spanish university Escuela Superior de Diseno Region de Murcia.

The institute has two joint educational programs with the Chanapatana International Institute of Design in Thailand and Kyemyong University in South Korea.

Foreign students from Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, South Korea and Ukraine are enrolled in 8 undergraduate programs.

The faculty staff also actively participate in conducting seminars and lectures in foreign universities, they are often invited to the National University of Kazakhstan named after Al-Farabi, South Kazakhstan University named after Mukhtar Auezov, Pendidikan Sultan Idris University of Malaysia, Keimyong University of Korea, Karabuk University of Turkey, Kütahya Dumlupinar University.

Also, foreign professors from Malaysia, Spain, Poland, South Korea, Japan and the USA are involved in the educational and scientific process of the institute.

Close cooperative relationships have been established with embassies and organizations of foreign countries operating in our country in the fields of education, science and art. A striking example of this are UNESCO, KOICA, JICA, British Council, the national office of Erasmus+ and other organizations.

Language courses

The institute offers English language courses. These courses are designed to help students master the English language, develop their oral and written skills, and prepare for international language certification exams. Classes are conducted by qualified specialists using modern teaching methods. Special attention is paid to grammar, listening comprehension, reading, writing, and communication skills. Students, faculty, staff, and anyone interested in learning English are welcome to attend. The courses provide excellent opportunities for learning foreign languages ​​and active participation in international educational and research projects.

Opportunities for students

Foreign citizens wishing to study at NIFAD undergo an interview with the admissions committee in the chosen field of education. The interview will take place in the first or second ten days of August in Russian or Uzbek languages

According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated January 23, 1997 "On the establishment of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 131 dated March 11, 1997, on the basis of the Faculty of Painting of the Tashkent State Art Institute named after Mannon Uyghur The National Institute of Painting and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod was established. The institute was named after the great painter Kamoliddin Behzod, who founded the Eastern miniature school, and the Faculty of Fine Arts, which is the main foundation of the institute, was established. In this faculty, there are many outstanding teachers who laid the foundation stone for the visual arts of Uzbekistan and left behind many students, academicians of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, national artists of Uzbekistan and others. Many famous artists taught the secrets of fine arts to the students of the faculty. Currently, 24 academicians and professors, 28 associate professors, a total of 102 professors-teachers are working in the department on the basis of main and deputy positions in the faculty. The faculty has 4 departments. Among them are the departments "Table painting", "Major painting", "Theatre decoration painting", "Miniature and book graphics". In these departments of the faculty, specialists are trained in eight areas of bachelor's education, and seven areas of master's specialization. After completing the bachelor's and master's degrees of the institute, they work in all schools and colleges of the republic, theaters, film studios, publishing houses, galleries and museums of the republic. Currently, the faculty is studying winners of the State Prize named after "Zulfiya", the winner of the "Brave Boy" badge, winners of famous scholarships, winners of international Olympiads and prestigious competitions. The faculty is directed to the training of highly qualified personnel in the specialties of art historian and museologist. Currently, the faculty has 3 specialist training departments.

Art historian Sh.S.Gulomova, later candidate of philological sciences G.Karshiyeva, doctor of philological sciences L.R.Raupova, doctor of philosophy (PhD) B.Sangirov worked as dean of the faculty. A total of 53 professors-teachers work in the departments of the faculty in the main staff and on the basis of deputation. In particular, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Art Studies, Professor A. From August 27, 2021, the faculty was named the Faculty of Art Studies and Museum Studies.

In our country, the training of qualified specialists in the field of design is required. Therefore, in order to meet the needs in this area, in 1999, the Department of Design was established within the Faculty of Applied Arts of the National Institute of Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod, which includes the training of specialists in the field of design education. ‘year.
In 2001, on the basis of the design department, the department of clothing design was separated.
Due to the rapid growth of demand in this field in our country and the increase in the number of students, in 2003 the Faculty of Design was established. Currently, the faculty has more than 593 students studying in 7 areas. The faculty has 5 PhD, 14 associate professors, 9 senior lecturers and 18 teachers.
