About the university
The idea of establishing the MGIMO branch in Tashkent was first announced in early 2018 during a working meeting between MGIMO Rector Anatoly V. Torkunov and UWED Rector Abdulaziz A. Abduvakhitov. By the autumn of 2018, practical steps had already been taken to formalize the agreements reached.
On October 19, 2018, during the official visit of Russian President Vladimir V. Putin to Tashkent, an intergovernmental Agreement on the establishment and operation of branches of higher education institutions of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed, along with an Agreement between UWED and MGIMO on the establishment of the MGIMO branch in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Decree of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat M. Mirziyoyev, dated February 11, 2019, on the organization of the activities of the MGIMO branch in Tashkent transformed these agreements into practical action. On September 1, 2019, MGIMO officially launched its academic programs in Tashkent.
MGIMO-Tashkent, the first international branch campus of MGIMO, offers six undergraduate and graduate programs with no equivalents in Uzbekistan. Students benefit from instruction by leading MGIMO professors, scholarships for outstanding applicants, preparatory programs, unique language training based on MGIMO’s own methodologies, and a modern campus located in the heart of Tashkent.
The educational process is organized according to a modular system, with courses lasting two to three weeks and including “Moscow modules”: one semester in Moscow for master's students and three semesters for bachelor's students. This approach enables students from Uzbekistan to become an integral part of the MGIMO community.
For international students
Accommodation in a dormitory is provided for international students studying at the campuses in Moscow and Odintsovo. At MGIMO-Tashkent, a gym, a library, and internet access (Wi-Fi) are available for all students.
