About the university
Nukus branch of the State institute of art and culture of Uzbekistan was organized on April 28, 2008 by Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-845. Later, based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 4, 2012 No. PQ-1771, Nukus branch of the State Institute of Arts and Culture of Uzbekistan was reorganized.
In the first year of the opening of the branch, 25 students were admitted to the courses “Dramaturgy of Stage and Screen” and “Dramaturgy and the Art of Acting”. Currently, 1,745 students are studying in 9 educational areas, full-time and part-time. Also, starting from the 2022-2023 academic year, a master’s program has been created, in which 9 master’s students are currently studying.
The branch has 3 faculties, 10 departments, the main staff includes 90 professors and teachers. Of these, 12 people received the scientific titles of Candidates of Science and Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 12 professors and 10 associate professors. In addition, the students is taught by People's Artists of the Republics of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan, Honored Artists, winners of the state awards "Nikhol" and "Zulfiya".
The dance ensemble “Tumar” was created at the branch in 2018 in order to increase the interest of students studying at the branch in the art of dance. In addition, the “Chevar qollar” club operates to train female students in their free time. There are also art and science clubs.
To date, the branch has signed cooperation agreements with 10 higher educational institutions in foreign countries. Within the framework of these agreements, great opportunities have been created for teachers and students of the branch to participate in international academic exchange courses, obtain scientific internships and experience, participate in international conferences, festivals and competitions. In particular, an academic exchange of professors and students has been established with the South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov and the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after H.A. Yassawi of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
For international students
For 2024-2025 academic year, it is planned to put into operation a student dormitory for students with 330 places in the Nukus branch of the State Institute of Art and Culture of Uzbekistan. There are also a Student Sports Club, the «Chevar Kullar» Club, the Tumar Dance Ensemble, a Theater Studio, and other clubs. Since 2023, the branch has established the “Maryash Ismailova Scholarship” for talented students.

Among them, South Kazakhstan University named after M.Avezov and Kazakh-Turkish international universities named after X.A.Yassavi were listed in the Top-1000 ranking of the world's best HEIs in 2023 by the prestigious international rating organization QS.
In the branch, every year students participate in the academic exchange program of the South-Kazakhstan University named after M.Avezov and the Kazakh-Turkish international university named after X.A. Yassavi as part of the academic exchange program.
Language courses
Training at the branch is conducted in Uzbek and Karakalpak languages. English language courses have also been organized for students on the basis of a contract with the non-governmental language training center "Orient Education."
Opportunities for students
To date, 550 alumni have graduated from the Nukus branch of the State Institute of Art and Culture of Uzbekistan. Their employment rate is more than 95 percent. Among the alumi of the branch: Sharipov A. - Director of the State Theater for Young Spectators of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Razimbetov B. - Deputy Director of the Palace of Arts of the Republic, Seytov A. - Deputy Director of the State Theater for Young Spectators of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Otepbergenov A. - Deputy Director of the Nukus branch of the State Institute of Art and culture of Uzbekistan, M. Abdremov - head of the “Technogenic Art” department of the branch.
