History of the Faculty
The Faculty of Mathematics is one of the oldest faculties of the National University of Uzbekistan, it was established as a department within the National University of Turkestan.

In the period 1918-1932, the following heads of the Physics and Mathematics department worked in different years: prof. V.I.Romanovsky, prof. S.N. Naumov, prof. A.V.Blagoveshensky, prof. V.G.Mukhin, prof. O.K.Lange, Associate Professor I.A.Teplov.

In 1932, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was established on the basis of the Physics and Mathematics Department. The dean of this faculty were: Associate Professor R.R.Zummerman (1933-1934), Associate Professor A.P.Domoryad (1934-1935), Associate Professor A.L.Perelnik (1935-1936), Professor V.I.Romanovsky (1936-1938), Professor A.A.Skvortsov (1938-1954), Associate Professor M.M.Sultanova (1954-1959).

In 1959, two faculties were established on the basis of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics: Physics and Mechanics and Mathematics. The first dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics was Associate Professor M.M.Sultonova. In 1961-1965, associate Professor M.A.Sabirov was the dean of this faculty, and in 1965-1971, associate Professor M.Vakhidov.

In 1971, two faculties were established on the basis of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics: mathematical and Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. Professor J.H.Khadzhiev was elected Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, followed by Professor A.S.Sadullaev (1985-1992), Professor A.Azamov (1992-1993), and Professor G.Khudoiberganov (1993-1994).

In 1994, due to the merger of the Faculties of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, the Faculty became known again as Mechanics and Mathematics. The deans of the faculty were: Prof.G.Khudoiberganov (1994-2001), Prof. R.R.Ashurov (2001-2003), Prof. B.A.Shoimkulov (2003-2013), Assoc. Dzhumaboev D.H. (2013-2015), Assoc. Khudoiberdiev A.Kh. (2015-2017), N.M.Zhabborov (2017-2019), Associate Professor A.R.Kutlimuratov (2019-2020). Since 2020, the faculty has been headed by Professor O.S.Zikirov.

Of the graduates of the faculty, 21 became academicians: Korinieziy T.N., Urazboev M.T., Sarimsokov T.A., Sirozhiddinov S.H., Salokhitdinov M.S., Zhuraev T.J. Azlarov T.A., Farmonov Sh.K., Satimov N.Yu., Khodzhiev Zh.X., Sadullaev A.S., Ayupov S.A., Kabulov V.K., Rashidov T.R., Bondarenko B.A., Muborakov Y.N., Buriev T., Abutaliev F.B., Fayzullaev Zh.D., Buzin E.I., Filatov A.N. And also more than 100 of the graduates became doctors of sciences and professors. More than 50 graduates of the faculty successfully work in various foreign scientific centers and universities.

Currently, more than 120 faculty professors are training future specialists. Of these, 6 are academicians, about 40 doctors of sciences are professors, and more than 50 candidates of sciences are associate professors.

History of the faculty
During the first years of the establishment of the university, the foundations for the study of physics were laid, and the faculty of physics and mathematics provides education to students in the fields of physics, astronomy, mechanics and geophysics, as well as scientific and research work in various fields of physics. conducted. Musakhanov-theoretical physics, Professor A. T. Teshabaev, Acad. S. Z. Zaynabidinov semiconductor physics, academician S. R. Rashidova-polymer physics, Prof. A.T. The faculty has 73 professors and teachers, including 4 academicians of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, 19 doctors of sciences and professors, 39 candidates of sciences and associate professors. At the moment, the faculty is preparing a bachelor's degree in 2 fields of study and a master's degree in 7 specialties. In addition, the faculty offers DSc and PhD doctoral programs.

In order to organize educational and professional internships for students and the completion of master's dissertations and graduation qualification work at a high level, they regularly visit the Institute of Ion Plasma and Laser Technologies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Astronomy, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Institute of Solar Physics of the Republic of Uzbekistan. , the Institute of Polymer Physics and Chemistry and other branch institutes of the Academy of Sciences, as well as the Special photon and phonon Design Bureau, are sent to scientific laboratories with modern material and technical bases.

The information resource center of the Faculty of Physics has a fund of more than 100,000 books and is equipped according to current needs. An 80-seat study room and an Open Magazine Fund have been created. More than 400 educational works, about 50 new laboratory works have been created by professors and teachers of the faculty and are used in the educational process.

The faculty organizes and conducts high-level scientific research work. Over the next five years, participation in grant competitions at the international and national levels increased sharply. More than 10 international and republican scholarships, scientific and economic contracts are executed by professors and teachers of the Faculty of Physics.

Today, the team of professors works in cooperation with many universities and institutes of foreign countries. Until the 1930s, Faculty of Biology of National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek functioned as a department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty. In 1921, the Institute of Chemistry was established at Turkestan State University, which conducted chemistry classes at five faculties of the university. By 1926, this institute became the basis for the creation of the Faculty of Chemistry, and in 1930, the Faculty of Chemistry as part of the Central Asian State University.

Interuniversity Scientific Laboratory "Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology" (MGB)

The laboratory was established in 2019 with the participation of the International Development Association as part of the implementation of Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-2848 “on measures to implement the project ”strengthening the material and technical base of higher education institutions”. It was established on the basis of the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 22, 2017 “On measures to radically improve the system of training qualified personnel and developing scientific potential at the Mirzo Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan in 2019-2023” dated June 17, 2019.

The main purpose of the ICD is to conduct scientific research and train highly qualified personnel through the effective use of the equipment available to the ICD.

To achieve its goals, the ICD solves the following tasks::

Increasing the level of equipment loading in the ICD;
coordination of plans for the development of the material and technical base of the international air carrier by monitoring modern scientific equipment and providing existing complexes with modern scientific equipment;
Ensuring timely maintenance and technically competent operation of MVL equipment;
Ensuring the quality and reliability of measurements during scientific research of MVL equipment;
Planning and organization of scientific research conducted by external organizations and structural divisions;
to develop cooperation in the field of science and education with equipment manufacturers, enterprises, production facilities, scientific and educational organizations.
THE MAIN ACTIVITIES OF MVL MKB:

Implementation of the regime of collective use of scientific and technical equipment by the structural divisions of UZGU, as well as by third parties on the basis of contracts and cooperation agreements;
improving the level of scientific research and the quality of education through the formation of modern research complexes that meet international standards for the technical and operational characteristics of the equipment fleet;
development and improvement of existing and implementation into practice of new methods and techniques of scientific research on testing and assessment of conformity of products to standards;
effective use of the intellectual potential, material and technical base of the ICD for the training of specialists and highly qualified personnel (students, doctoral students and staff);
establishment of business and personnel relations with high-tech enterprises, scientific and educational organizations;

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Foreign Philology is one of the prestigious faculties of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek. The Faculty of Foreign Philology was founded in 1994 as a result of the merger of the faculties of Romanic and Germanic Philology and Russian Philology. The Romano-Germanic Faculty was founded in 1962. The Department of Russian Philology, which is one of the oldest departments of the university (1941-1942), functioned as part of the Faculty of History and Philology. In 1943, the Faculty of Philology was subdivided as a separate faculty.

Russian scholars - Academicians V. Zhirmunskiy and V.F. Shishmarev, who worked at SASU during World War II, played an important role in the formation of the faculty. On their initiative, in 1943, the Department of Romano - Germanic Philology was opened at the Faculty of Philology of the University.

Over the years, Associate Professors of Romano-Germanic philology E.F. Vaganov (1963-1981), Z.B. Sattarova (1981-1985), J.A. Bobodjonova (1985-1992) and Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor A.A. Abuduazizov (1992-1994) headed the faculty. The dean of the Faculty of Russian Philology was Associate Professor P.P. Filippov (1980-1994).The newly created faculty of foreign philology was headed by Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan, Professor A. Abduazizov (1994-2007). From August 20, 2007 to July 2008, the faculty was headed by the Doctor of Philosophy, Professor A.E. Mamatov. From July 2008 to 2012 the head of the faculty was the Doctor of Philosophy Sh.S. Imyaminova. From November 2012 to July 2013 - Ph.D., Associate Professor Djumabaeva J.Sh., and from July 2013 to the present the head of the faculty is Ph.D., Associate Professor I. A. Juraeva.

The main objective of the faculty today is to help students find their places in society in the future, and become independent, creative and competent professionals of the fields. Today, the attention of the faculty is aimed at making a significant contribution to the development of science in the country, the development of international cooperation, and the implementation of joint educational projects.

     Over the past few years, the academic staff of the faculty successfully defended doctoral dissertations: 5 professors were awarded DSc degree and 12 teachers were awarded PhD degree.

Professors of the faculty have published  more than 100 textbooks, guidebooks, and more than 20 dictionaries. Additionally, the Professors have translated more than 30 works of literature from Uzbek into foreign languages ​​and vice versa. Senior Lecturer of the Department of German Philology Kh. Kochkarova made a huge contribution to translate the works of modern Swiss German writers Jenny Erpenbek "In Search of the Abode", Elke Heidenreich and Bernd Schroeder "Eternal Love" into Uzbek. Accomplished students translated the poems of Uzbek poets by Erkin Vakhidov, Abdulla Oripov,  Mukhammad Yusuf into English, German, French and Russian.

Our distinguished professors have been awarded various medals:

• Doctor of Philological Sciences Ermatov Bakhodir Sodikovich was awarded the “Shukhrat” Medal (1997) for his contribution to the development of science, culture, and education in the country, education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism, independence and social justice in our country.
• Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Abduzukhur Abdumazhitovich Abduazizov was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan (1998).
• Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor of Russian literature, Davshan Alexandra Nikolaevna was awarded the “Dustlik” Medal (2007).
• For her scientific and pedagogical work, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Anna Gennadievna Sheremeteva  was awarded the Medal of “Dustlik” (2008),   the Medal of ” Pushkin” (2018). She was also awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Government Commission for her work with compatriots abroad of the Russian Federation in Uzbekistan (Rossotrudnichestvo), Honorary Diploma of the Moscow Government, Honorary Badge "Uzbekistan" of the Russian Cultural Center in Tashkent.
• For her contribution to the development of trainings and studies of the French language, popularization of French culture, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Raima Khakimovna Shirinova was highly appreciated by the French government. Faculty History

The history of the Faculty of Economics at the National University of Uzbekistan begins with the history of the university itself, founded in 1918.
In 1931, based on this faculty, the Tashkent Financial Institute, the Research Institute of Economics, and the Agricultural Institute were established. The training of economic specialists at the university started in the Department of Political Economy, which was part of the Faculty of History.
In 1979, the Faculty of Philosophy and Economics was separated from the Faculty of History, and until 1990, the Department of Political Economy operated within this faculty.
Since 1991, the Faculty of Economics has been functioning independently.
In 2021, the faculty celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Social and Humanitarian Faculty — History and Current Activities

The Social and Humanitarian Faculty (until 1991 known as the Philosophical-Economic Faculty, from 1991 to 2014 as the Philosophical Faculty) was established in 1979 and was renamed the Social and Humanitarian Faculty in 2014. Initially, the faculty consisted of departments of philosophy, psychology, economics, and political science.

The faculty is aimed at educating youth in the spirit of patriotism, fostering a sense of involvement, deeply mastering knowledge and skills, and acquiring foreign languages to communicate social, spiritual, and political reforms carried out in Uzbekistan to various segments of the population. It also prepares qualified bachelors and masters who, through their moral example, can serve as role models for youth. The faculty is one of the main universities for training personnel.

The faculty employs 32 Doctors of Science (DSc) — professors, 47 Candidates of Science (PhD) — associate professors, and more than 100 senior lecturers, lecturers, and assistants. There are over 5,500 undergraduate students, about 260 master's students, and more than 50 researchers in doctoral and postgraduate studies.

Faculty History

The faculty cooperates with leading foreign universities in philosophy, pedagogy, psychology, political science, and jurisprudence — in the USA, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Spain, Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, China, Sweden, and other countries.

Together with the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek and UNICEF, an international project is being implemented to improve the system of personnel training in the social sphere in Uzbekistan (2018–2021).

Faculty of History

The Faculty of History was established in 1935. It initially included the departments of Ancient History, Medieval History, and Contemporary History. Later, the structure of the faculty was expanded to include the departments of “Archaeology,” “Medieval and Modern History” (later “World History”), “Source Studies, Archival Studies and Museology,” and “Ethnology.”
The faculty has been headed at different times by I. Dodonov, D. Lobashev, A. Khamrayev, Kh. Khamroev, L. Gentschke, G. Kovalev, O. Toshmukhamedov, G.A. Khidoyatov, A.S. Sagdullaev, Kh.G. Gulyamov, Z.U. Choriyev, A.S. Tatibaev, Z.R. Ishonkhojaeva, and M.M. Khaydarov. Currently, the Dean is A. Muminov.

Research Activity

In December 2017, Professor A.S. Sagdullaev of the department was awarded the title of academician.

Since 1940, the Department of Archaeology has maintained a teaching cabinet-museum, established simultaneously with the department’s opening. Here, students conduct practical classes involving the analysis, classification, documentation, and restoration of archaeological findings. There is also an archaeological fund storing the department’s field discoveries.

The department also houses a modern GIS laboratory, equipped with the latest instruments and technology. It is used for research on archaeological sites in Tashkent, the Tashkent region, and the Karshi Oasis.

As part of the scientific-practical seminar “International Life” organized by the Faculty of History, a workshop by academician A.S. Sagdullaev was held on May 1, 2018, titled “The Role of Central Asia in the System of Ancient International Relations.”

History of the Faculty

The Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources was established in 2018 as a result of the division of the Faculty of Geology and Geography into two independent faculties. However, in reality, it began functioning as an independent unit back in 1920 as part of the Military Faculty of the Turkestan State University through the departments of “Geography of Turkestan” and “Geodesy.”

OUR MISSION

To train highly qualified bachelors and masters in the fields of physical geography, economic geography, hydrology, climatology, cartography, geodesy, and other Earth sciences for research institutions, industrial sectors, and higher education institutions of Uzbekistan.

OUR VISION

Natural resources play a central role in the life of society and individuals, as the relationship between nature and society is inseparable. Sustainable development of society is largely dependent on the development of scientifically grounded methods for managing natural and geographical processes in order to eliminate geoecological problems.

• Professors V.L. Schultz and O.P. Sheglova – Scientific School of Hydrology of Mountainous Regions

• Professor T.M. Mirzaliev – Scientific School of Atlas Cartography

The Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources is an integral part of classical university education.

The training of higher education specialists in the field of "geographer-engineer" began in 1935. However, since the very founding of the university, research on the nature, population, and economy of our region has been actively conducted. Over more than 80 years, the Faculty of Geography has become a center for geographical education and research in Uzbekistan.

In 2015, following a merger with the Faculty of Geology, it became the “Geography” department within the Faculty of Geology and Geography. Since January 2018, it has once again been functioning as an independent entity — the Faculty of Geography and Natural Resources.

History of the Faculty

The geological direction of the faculty began its activities in September 1920 as part of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Turkestan State University. In 1936, it was officially organized as an independent faculty.

Although the formal training of geologists with higher education at the National University of Uzbekistan began in 1936, the tasks of studying the subsoil, population, and economy of the region were successfully addressed from the earliest years of this prestigious university’s existence.

The first geological laboratories and departments started to form in the early 1920s. During this period, the departments of Mineralogy and General Geology were founded (A.S. Uklonsky, V.I. Popov, Z.F. Gorizdro-Kulchitskaya).

History of the Faculty

It is known that large-scale work is underway in our country to promote a healthy lifestyle, create conditions for regular physical culture and sports activities among youth, strengthen belief in one’s own strength, willpower, and capabilities through sports competitions, and develop courage, patriotism, and loyalty to the Motherland. Systematic selection of talented athletes and the development of physical culture and sports are also emphasized.

Today, our compatriots achieve high results in the Olympic, World, and Asian Games, as well as prestigious international sports competitions. Especially important is the rapid development of Taekwondo (WTF) in our republic, which is becoming increasingly popular among young people.

With the aim of further developing the sport of Taekwondo (WT) in the Republic of Uzbekistan and improving the system for training highly qualified athletes and personnel,

By decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 16, 2017, No. 3390, a decision was made to establish the Faculty of "Taekwondo and Sports Activity" based on the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek.

According to this decision, the main tasks of the faculty were defined. These include training highly qualified personnel skilled in teaching methods and practical training in the sport of Taekwondo (WT), its history, philosophy, and classification, the use of modern pedagogical and information-communication technologies in the educational process, improving the system of training specialists and coaches with the involvement of experienced foreign and domestic practitioners, developing modern curricula and methods aimed at the development of individual abilities and talents of students, as well as training professional athletes who successfully participate in international competitions and are members of the national team.

In the social life of our country, important new areas of training, professions, and priority fields of science were determined, taking into account the scientific-educational, educational, research, and international achievements of the faculty's teaching staff.

Modern curricula and methods have been developed aimed at training highly qualified coaches and teachers, identifying talented youth, and developing professional athletes' skills for worthy participation in international sports competitions.

Currently, 37 faculty members work at the faculty, including 11 women. Among them are 2 Doctors of Science, 6 PhD holders, 4 professors, and 8 associate professors.

The Faculty of "Taekwondo and Sports Activity" offers training in Sports Activity (Taekwondo WT, Rugby, Kurash, Judo, and Freestyle Wrestling) and Sports Management (Organization and Management of Sports Events).

Innovative methods are used in the educational process, and in-depth scientific research is conducted on topical issues of physical culture and sports. Approximately 30 scientific articles (over 10 abroad), around 5 monographs, more than 10 textbooks, and over 15 teaching aids and methodological works are published annually. Since 2021, a republican and international scientific-practical conference titled "Prospects for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports: Problems and Solutions" has been held.

To develop students' talents and form strong motivation for self-improvement, the faculty established the "Young Scientists" school. The university's sports complex has been fully renovated and equipped with modern sports facilities and open arenas. More than 15 sports sections in martial arts and team sports regularly work with youth.

As a result, our talented students participated in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024: 9 athletes, including 2 gold medalists — Ulugbek Rashitov (Taekwondo WT) and Asad Toshtemirov (Parataekwondo), and 2 silver medalists — Svetlana Osipova (Taekwondo WT) and Ziyoda Isokova (Parataekwondo).

Today, thanks to the care of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the support of university leadership, students have the opportunity to fully realize their abilities, glorify the Motherland on the international sports stage, which inspires the faculty and university to pursue greater goals.

Among the faculty students are 4 Olympic and Paralympic champions and medalists, 17 winners and prize-winners of World Championships, 29 of Asian Championships, and over 200 winners and prize-winners of international and republican competitions.

Talented students have been awarded state honors: 2 laureates of the State Prize named after Zulfiya (Svetlana Osipova and Iroda Umirzakova), 1 holder of the State Scholarship named after Islam Karimov (Mukhlista Ergasheva), 1 holder of the "Pahlavon Mahmud" scholarship (Dildora Isroiljonova), 1 holder of the Presidential Scholarship (Mushtariy Razzokova).

Faculty coaches contribute significantly to the development of mass sports, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among the population and youth, as well as the identification and training of talented athletes throughout the country.
