Nuclear physics and nuclear technologies

Bachelor Full-time 4 year Grant available

About the programme

Program objectives: To train a wide range of scientific personnel in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. Preparation of bachelors who know the basics of nuclear physics, elementary particles and cosmology, ready to participate in research work on: 1) improving experimental techniques in the field of high-energy physics and neutrinos, preparing and conducting the experiment itself in this field, interpreting its results 2) solving fundamental problems of cosmology and particle physics related to the description of the early Universe, hidden mass and dark energy, etc. The duration of full-time education is 4 years.

Field of professional activity: enterprises of the nuclear industry and related fields. Bachelor's degree programs are focused on their research work in the field of fundamental particle physics and cosmology. Graduates can participate in the preparation and conduct of various particle physics experiments, including the creation and use of elementary particle and radiation detectors, as well as participate in the analysis of experimental data. They can also participate in theoretical predictions and interpretation of experiments in high-energy physics (at accelerators, in astrophysics).

Subjects of professional activity: particle physics and cosmology with a focus mainly on experiments at particle accelerators (Large Hadron Collider, etc.), neutrino physics, exotic nuclei, physics of quark-gluon matter, physics of the (super)early Universe, the nature of hidden mass and dark energy, theory of gravity with multidimensional generalizations, as well as the creation of devices for detecting particles and radiation in applied fields.

Curriculum features: The main basic and special disciplines are: Theory of ionizing radiation transfer; Physics of protection; Dosimetry, radiometry and spectrometry of ionizing radiation; Instrumental methods of radiation safety; Fundamentals of Nuclear Technology Safety; Risk analysis and Management; Medical and biological foundations of radiation safety; Safe management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Students have the opportunity to choose a field of study focused on experimental or theoretical research. The experimental direction is connected with experiments on accelerators (the Large Hadron Collider, etc.), on neutrino physics, direct search for the hidden mass of the Universe, etc. The theoretical direction is related to cosmology and theoretical astrophysics. In the first area, experimental techniques, elementary particle detectors, electronics, measurement methods, as well as methods and tools for computer modeling, processing, and analysis of experimental data are studied in more detail. In the second area, the fundamentals of relativistic quantum mechanics, astrophysics and cosmology, and computer calculation tools are studied.
