Program Description
The History program is a major field within the system of social and human sciences. It focuses on studying the stages of human societal development as well as the political, economic, cultural, and spiritual processes that shape civilizations. The program aims to develop in graduate students a capacity for historical thinking, analytical reasoning, work with primary sources, and the formulation of scholarly conclusions. The study of history enables not only an understanding of the past but also a sound evaluation of present realities and future development trends.
Program Objective
The primary goal of the program is to provide graduate students with a comprehensive system of historical knowledge, research methodologies, and analytical skills, preparing specialists who are capable of independent, critical thought and possess an in-depth understanding of both national and world history.
Competencies and Learning Outcomes
During their studies, graduate students will:
- study in depth the main stages of Uzbekistan’s and world history;
- master techniques for analyzing, comparing, and interpreting historical sources;
- develop the ability to connect historical processes with current global contexts;
- acquire skills for conducting independent scientific research.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the two-year curriculum, graduates are awarded the Master of History degree. They may pursue careers as history educators, researchers, museum specialists, archivists, analysts, and other professionals in social and cultural institutions.
Graduates will:
- possess the ability to read, translate, and analyze historical documents;
- have advanced knowledge in Uzbekistan’s history, world history, the philosophy of history, historiography, archaeology, and ethnology;
- be skilled in applying information technologies to historical research.
Curriculum Structure
In the first year, students study core and foundational courses such as: Research Methodology, Methods of Teaching Specialized Disciplines, Issues in Historical Reconstruction, Paleoecology and Civilization Dynamics, Land and Water Relations in Uzbekistan (from ancient to modern times), Cooperation between Uzbekistan and World Countries under Globalization, History of State and Local Governance in Uzbekistan, and The Primitive Communal System and Early Statehood in Central Asia.
In the second year, they take specialized courses including Sources and Historiography of the Ancient East, Interethnic Relations and Tolerance in Uzbekistan, History of Migration Processes: Past and Present, and Contemporary Issues in the History of World Civilizations.
The program integrates theoretical instruction with practical experience, including internships in archives and museums.
Postgraduate Opportunities
Graduates may continue their studies:
- at the doctoral level in such fields as History of Uzbekistan, Historiography and Source Studies, World History, Ethnography, Ethnology, and Anthropology;
- as teachers of “History” and “Civic Education” in secondary schools;
- as tour guides or cultural interpreters in historical and heritage sites;
- or as independent researchers or academic staff in research institutes, museums, archives, and higher education institutions.
